1 missed flight and an unintended visit to Toronto...

Last Tuesday we took the ferry in Victoria (on Vancouver Island) back to Vancouver. There we brought our car back and walked a last time through the city. In the evening we went out for dinner with two of Ueli's friends to say goodbye.

On Wednesday morning we had to get up at 5.30am to be at the airport on time. Orginally it was planned to fly from Vancouver to Calgary and from there to New York (J.F.K.). Since our first flight was delayed (40min) we missed our connection in Calgary... We ran from office to office untill we knew where our bagage is and what we can do know. Finally we were told to fly to Toronto and take there another flight to Newark... The only poroblem was that this flight was delayed again and we were really afraid to miss the next one too, the stewardess even refused to let us out first... Angry and stressed we ran through the airport in Toronto and reached the US custom totally sweaty. Luckily the officer was really friendly and let us in after we gave him our fingerprints and answered some question. So we reached our flight this time and landed in Newark.
This wasn't enough... Additionally there was no free food on all of the flights and they only accepted Canadian dollars which we had spent completely in Vancouver. Starving and very tired we took a taxi from the airport to our hostel. The taxi driver wanted 90 US dollars and scared us a lot about the neighbourhood (Spanish Harlem) where our hostel is...

Anyway this morning the world looked a bit diffrent, beside the dirty bathroom the area and the hostel looked not too bad and a French couple assured us that it's save and no problem to stay here.
So we started our first tour to discover New York... Photos will follow later, the only thing I can say is that I've never seen such a place before. It's really busy, crowded, huge, multicultural, crazy, expensive, beautiful...
