As I had a bit more time the last weeks to catch up on news, I tried to use it to find out more about the upcoming elections.
Well, I tried... Acctually, I think I'm not any cleverer than before.
In my opinion there's wether a party nor a candidate (at least in the canton of Zug) that I would fully support.
I see two reasons for the problem:
a) Politics are so broad and there are so many completely different topics, that you just can't agree in all of them with one party.
b) My own mindset is too multifaceted and my positions in diffrent topics don't go in the same direction.
Reason a) is a probably just fact. Life, world, economics and everything is complicated, so must be politics... :-)
Reason b) is a bit harder to judge, because the question is if I'm the only one or are all the other electors just more willing to compromise? If yes, does that make sense? Maybe (or better probably) it's the only way how direct democracy can work, after all every citizen could catch (?) the referendum or an initiative if they don't like what the elected candidates are doing...
What I did beside reading newspaper and watching TV, was the "politarena", a survey that should tell you which party you agree most with. Again should... I've already done this about 5 years ago at highschool and the result was still the same... EVP = evangelische Volkspartei... ??? (before FDP, CVP, Grüne)
After that I went to their homepage to study their programm. To be honest there are lost of points that I agree completely, but there are also points that could be from the last century. Espcially the parts about homosexuality, abortion, adoption,... make me angry and sad...
Anyway there's no EVP candidate, that I could elect. As I know myself it will end up in a complete weird electoral list with candidates across all the parties, beside the one that I won't name, that definitely lost my vote with all their nice posters and videos...
